National Assembly UN SDGs Forum

Following Korea National Assembly UN SDGs Forum’s first meeting in March 2014, we visited the UN Headquarters to meet the former Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon and discussed the purpose and goals of the Forum.

The former Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon said “I believe the Korea National UN SDGs Forum will make meaningful contributions to Korea’s and the international community’s effort in establishing the Post 2015 Agenda,” and further emphasized his expectation and belief that the Forum will “help expand Korea’s international involvement and become a respected leading figure.” Furthermore, he provided us with the opportunity to review the specifics of the Forum with Jan Eliasson, the former Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.

The specifics of the Korea National Assembly UN SDGs Forum were submitted as a written statement in the HLPF of July 2016 and were consequently accepted as (E/2016/NGO/41). Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea emphasized in its 2016 Voluntary Country Report (VNR) to the United Nations that the National Assembly SDGs Forum was the first SDGs legislative consultative body in the world, and reported that it was established with ASD.

ASD is the official governing body of the Korea National Assembly UN SDGs Forum, a Korea National Assembly congressmen research organization.
