ASD participates in the main committees of the UN HLPF, UN ECOSOC, and formal meetings with key UN leaders to expand the SDGs global network.
In 2012, 2014, and 2016, the association visited former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and former Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson at the UN Headquarters in New York. During the 70th session of the UN General Assembly (2015) of which the UN SDGs were first established, former Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed met with the association separately. In 2016, ASD had a conversation with the Special Adviser of the UN Secretary-General on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Climate Change David Nabarro. In July of 2019 during the UN HLPF, the association hosted an official meeting with the UN Assistant Secretary-General & Chief Economist at the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs Elliott Harris at the New York UN Headquarters to discuss the SDGs strategies and activities of the association.
The activities of the association have been introduced and discussed at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly (2018) by the Seventy-second President of the General Assembly H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák and the Seventy-third President of the Economic and Social Council H.E. Ambassador Marie Chatardová.
In July of 2020, President of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly H.E. Mr. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande sent ASD an official letter commending the association of its implementation of the Guidelines for Reducing Plastic Waste (GRP) as well as its SDGs activities with corporations.
The association has officially participated in the 51st and 52nd Session of the Commission on Population and Development in 2018 and 2019 at the UN Headquarters in New York, submitting written statements both times that have been officially adopted.
From the 8th to the 19th of July 2019, ASD was selected as the Official Exhibitor for the 2019 UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). 36 organizations were selected worldwide, and ASD was the only official exhibitor from South Korea. The association exhibited sustainable business models with 14 global corporations at the first-floor lobby of the UN New York Headquarters.
